Ruim

Walk the real world. Claim the spirit realm.

A location game for runners and walkers. Every street you cover becomes territory in a realm of mist and mountains.

The world is under fog

Ruim lays a spirit realm over your neighborhood, hidden in mist. You see only the land around you and the land you hold. The more you hold, the farther you see.

Your route becomes your land

Start a run and head out. Every unclaimed hex your path crosses becomes yours. Walking counts, and so does a slow lap of the park.

Land that works while you rest

Your territory earns Impulse around the clock, and more when it stays connected to your capital. Spend it to fortify hexes, sharpen attacks and level up.

Your neighbors want it too

Strike rival hexes from land you hold beside them. Attack in person and you hit harder for less. Overreach, and the land around the battle decides who profits.

Keep your phone in your pocket

Ruim is built to play screen-free while you move. Send each run to Strava, keep it, or delete it. Your start and end points are blurred, so no one learns where you live.

Claim your first hex

The beta opens city by city. Tell us where you move and we'll invite you when the fog lifts near you.

Questions

When does the beta start?

We're inviting small groups through the coming months, starting with the cities where the most people sign up. Telling us your city helps us decide where to go next.

Which phones does it run on?

iPhone first. Android follows, so sign up with an Android phone and we'll let you know when it's ready.

Do I have to be a runner?

No. Walking claims land the same way running does. Rides earn Impulse too, but only runs and walks claim new hexes.

Does Ruim track me all the time?

Only if you allow it. Outside a workout, steps earn a little Impulse. During a workout your route is recorded so it can claim land, and afterwards you choose to send it to Strava, keep it, or delete it. Start and end points can be blurred by 200 metres.

Is it free?

The beta is free.
